Brief History
The Fulton Companies started with the creation of Fulton Boiler Works, Inc. (Fulton USA)
in 1949, founded by Lewis J. Palm. Mr. Palm invented the vertical tubeless boiler, which
gained rapid acceptance as the preferred packaged steam boiler for the dry cleaning
industry. The company began in Fulton and in 1959 moved to the current location of
Pulaski, New York. Tubeless boilers are now sold in most major markets worldwide to a
wide range of applications requiring process steam. Although a significant number of
competitors have entered this market worldwide, Fulton maintains the lead position in
market share.
In 1966 Fulton Boiler Works (Great Britain) Ltd. (Fulton UK) was formed to manufacture
tubeless boilers for the English market. The selling rights for tubeless boilers were granted
to an equipment distributor specializing in laundry and dry cleaning equipment. Fulton Boiler (Great Britain) continues to operate out of Bristol, England, having purchased the marketing
rights back in 1988. Fulton is the dominant manufacturer of small packaged boilers in Great Britain.
In 1971 Ronald Palm (son of founder) created Fulton Thermal Corporation (FTC) to produce thermal fluid heaters. This product line was bolstered in 1974 with the signing of a license with
Wanson Company of Brussels, Belgium, to manufacture larger heaters. Although the license agreement was terminated, FTC continues to sell these products worldwide to customers requiring high temperature thermal fluid for process applications.
In 1990 Fulton introduced Pulse Combustion boilers for hydronic and steam applications.
Pulse combustion boilers are sold primarily into the high efficiency gas fired hydronic heating market. These products are marketed through Fulton Thermal Corporation.
